Lactobacillus ferment

When a skincare product contains any form of water, then a preservative is needed to prevent the growth of bacteria and micro organisms, which can naturally flourish in the presence of water.

I have been very methodical in my search for a wholly natural preservative that is supremely effective but not detrimental to the skin and particularly its protective microbiome.

Lactobacillus ferment is a unique, innovative  and natural probiotic-based ingredient obtained through the fermentation process of Lactobacillus in a precisely defined growth medium. Lactobacillus, a member of the lactic acid bacteria family, it is extensively employed in the production of fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut derived from cabbage.

In addition to its acidifying properties that impede the growth of other microorganisms, Lactobacillus exhibits a fascinating characteristic – the synthesis of novel antimicrobial peptides called bacteriocins, boasting an impressive ability to provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial protection.

As well as preventing unwanted microbial growth without destroying our own microbiome, studies show that products made with these natural cultures significantly improve the moisture levels of the skin compared to the same product made without it, by up to 14.38% after 24 hours and 24.13% after 4 weeks.
